Arlene Jean (Burr) Carr passed away in her home on May 16, 2021. Arlene was born on December 6, 1938 and raised in Youngstown, Ohio by her loving parents, George and Florence Burr. She has two siblings, David Burr and Carolyn Burr So. She graduated from South High School in Youngstown, Ohio in 1956. On June 24, 1961, she married her high school sweetheart, James Carr. Together Jim and Arlene had three beautiful children: Christine (Ketcham-Carr), Paula (Peterman), and David Carr. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, Florence and George Burr, her sister, Carolyn, her son, David, and her son-in-law, Marty Ketcham. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Jim, her brother, David, her daughters, Christine and Paula, her son-in-law, Greg, and her nine grandchildren, Hannah (& Matthew) Elmore, Jacob (& Jen) Ketcham, Charis (& Tyler) Hauschild, Hope (& Nathan) Geeting, Jonathan (& Braelyn) Ketcham, Sydney Peterman, Tate Peterman, Ben Carr, and Sackett Carr, as well as one great-grandchild, Francis Elmore. To her friends and family, Arlene will most be remembered for her kind heart, generous spirit, and deep care for those she loved. To her grandchildren, she was known endearingly as “Nani” and will be remembered for her humor and wit, her love of birds and nature, and the many memories she created during times together, including lively games of charades and dancing to Elvis. She is also remembered for her avid letter writing, love of arranging flowers, her days as a swim instructor and synchronized swimmer, and her love for the mountains and Lake Lure where the Carr family spent many summers together. , Arlene and Jim were one month short of celebrating 60 years of marriage. Her family celebrates this milestone nonetheless and are thankful for the love and devotion Jim and Arlene exhibited in their marriage—their undying commitment to one another, their genuine care in sickness and in health, and the steadfast ways they kept these vows in humor and love.
