Beverly Sheppard

Beverly Sheppard, age 89, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on January 6th, 2022. She was born in Detroit, MI on August 9, 1932, to the late Helmuth Zilz and Florence Lisk Zilz. In addition to her parents, Beverly was also preceded in passing by her husband of 64 years David Sheppard and her son Greg Sheppard. She was a graduate of Wayne State University with a BS and a master’s degree in education. Beverly’s faith was steadfast. An active parishioner at St. Patrick Cathedral and St. Matthew Catholic Church, Beverly had a servant’s heart. She could be found in the school kitchen cooking for spaghetti suppers, serving on bereavement committees, delivering communion to the sick and homebound, and serving as a lector. Beverly retired from her career in education as a teacher with the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System. She also taught immigrants and refugees English as a second language. Her many hobbies included art, travel, shopping, and interior design. She cared for many rescued animals over the years and cherished the time spent with her grandchildren and family. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her. She is survived by her children Marie Sheppard Raymer (Jim) and Sue Sheppard (Curt Pendley), grandchildren Michael Raymer and Danielle Sheppard. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in the name of Beverly Sheppard to Holy Angels or The Alzheimer’s Association. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 8015 Ballantyne Commons Pkwy, Charlotte, NC 28277. A Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00AM. Burial will be at Forest Lawn East Cemetery. Family is in the care of Heritage Funeral Home, Weddington Chapel.
