Dennis "Buddy" Silva Rego

December 23, 1945 - March 17, 2022

Dennis “Buddy” Silva Rego, 76, of Charlotte, NC, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, March 17, 2022 in Matthews. Buddy was born on December 23, 1945 in Fall River, MA to the late Zoe G. Martin and Dennis S. Rego. Buddy was a resident of Charlotte for 74 years. He attended Garinger High School and graduated on May 13, 1963. Following high school he graduated Wingate College with an Associate Degree in General Studies in 1965. Buddy went on to become a Mountaineer at Appalachian State University in Boone, NC obtaining his Bachelor of Science degree in Health & Physical Education in June of 1970. Education was very important to Buddy and he taught Physical Education and Health for over 37 years, ranging from grade Kindergarten to 12th grade in both the Charlotte Mecklenburg and Union County Public School districts. Equal to his passion for teaching, Buddy also coached high school baseball and football at many different schools, touching the lives of countless student athletes. Buddy will be known for his infectious smile and passion for life, making people belly laugh, unconditional love for his family, always trying to improve his golf game, immaculate shag dancing and his “Peter Pan Syndrome” for wanting to stay forever young. When he was not spending time with his family, specifically his grandchildren, Buddy would be found on a golf course or working in his yard, watching college sports or PGA Golf on Sundays, or traveling all over the country driving charter buses. As a man of God, Buddy is survived by his daughter Jodi and son-in-law Eric Seiden of Matthews, NC; daughter Casey and son-in-law Brad Young of Raleigh, NC; son Matt and daughter-in-law Chrissy Rohus of Charlotte, NC; and his six grandchildren: Cole and Mason Wooten, Truitt and Clara Young, Jackson and Parker Rohus and brothers David Rego and wife Connie and Phillip Rego and Carol Verner. Visitation for Buddy will be Saturday, March 26, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. with the Celebration of Life service beginning at 2:00 p.m., all at Heritage Funeral Home – Weddington Chapel.
