    Edith L. Johnson

    October 1, 1924 - March 8, 2022

    Edith L. Johnson, 97, passed from this life on March 8, 2022. Edith was born on October 1, 1924 in Hardin County, TN. Edith was preceded in death by her parents, Henry T. Gean and Sarah Martin Gean and her husband of 58 years, Doyal Johnson. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by eight siblings. Edith is survived by her five children, Gloria J. Yates (Garrie), Sarah S. Dybash (Mark) of Charlotte, NC., David L. Johnson (Brenda) of Ypsilanti, MI., Gary T. Johnson (Sue) of Belleville, MI., and Kevin N. Johnson of Las Vegas, NV. She leaves behind her loving 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Edith married Doyal Johnson on March 10, 1940. They lived in TN., Ypsilanti, MI. and Edith moved back to the TN / AL area from Ypsilanti to be near her family when Doyal went into the Navy in World War 2. They lived in Florence, AL. for a few years following WW 2 and then returned to Ypsilanti, MI. Edith moved to Charlotte, NC. in 2008 to be near her two daughters. She moved into Summit Place Assisted Living in December, 2016, residing there until her death. Edith enjoyed going to the Oasis Club at the J.C.C. and made many friends there. Edith lived her faith and served others. She was concerned about social injustices; always trying to help the poor and homeless. She belonged to numerous charitable organizations, including Michigan Christian College Associates. Edith was a life long member of The Church of Christ and enjoyed reading her Bible and worshipping God. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 12, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Providence Road Church of Christ. Burial will be in Ypsilanti, MI. at a later date.
