Flora "Flo" Hastings Beard Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Flora “Flo” Hastings Beard, 84, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Tuesday, May 17, 2022 at Carmel Hills Assisted Living. Flo was born on November 22, 1937 in Baltimore, Maryland, daughter to the late Horace and Rose Rethemeyer Hastings. Flo married the love of her life Ralph L. Beard in 1960 and had a blessed 62 years of marriage. She received a B.A. in Education and History as a Double Major from Bridgewater College in Bridgewater, VA and went on to become a School Teacher sharing all that she had learned. She enjoyed tennis, taking in Broadway Plays, cooking for family and playing Bridge with friends. Flo will be remembered as always being happy, fun loving, always enjoyed a good joke and her deep love for her family and her church family at Christ Lutheran Church in Charlotte. Flo will also be remembered as being creative with her paintings, crosstitch and other crafts. Survivors include her beloved husband and best friend Ralph L. Beard; loving son and daughter-in-law David H. and Balinda J. Beard; grandchildren that she adored Trent Beard (23) and Summer Batchelor (12); and her brother Butch Hastings and his wife Nancy. The family would like to thank Carmel Hills Assisted Living and Hospice of Charlotte for their loving care of Flo. In lieu of flowers, gifts can be made in memory of Flo Beard to: Operation Christmas Child, 7100 Forest Point Blvd., Charlotte, NC 28217. Graveside services will be private for the family at Forest Lawn East Cemetery. Services will be private.
