John Haakon Johnsen

March 2, 1945 - January 16, 2022

John Haakon Johnsen, 76 passed away at Novant Mint Hill on Friday, January 14, 2022. Born March 2, 1945 in Jersey City, New Jersey, Hudson County, he was the son of the late John and Ruth Matthews Johnsen. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert E. Johnsen. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sue Clontz Johnsen, daughters Amy Wylie (Jeff), Shannon Baucom (Norman), and Whitney Ricci (Mike). Grandchildren Caleb Baucom, Connor Baucom, and Addison Ricci all adored “Poppy”. He is also survived by his sisters Evine Eriksson and Ruthann Andrews along with numerous nieces and nephews. John was very well known for his selfless service by all who knew him. He proudly served his beloved country in the US Air Force in Vietnam. He retired from Duke Power after 40 years and continued working in the energy sector for a number of years. He retired in 2011. The family is being served by Heritage Funeral Home in Matthews, NC. A Memorial Service will be held January 20, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. all at Heritage Funeral Home, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Matthews, NC 28104 In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in John’s memory to the Samaritans Purse Ministry.
