    Josephine Cecelia Melvin

    August 23, 1927 - March 11, 2022

Josephine C. Melvin of Charlotte, NC Mrs. Melvin, 94, died peacefully at Carrington Place in Matthews,NC on March 11, 2022. Josephine was born in New Bern, NC to John Rizck Nassef and Nettie (George) Nassef on August 23, 1927. She was the youngest of 5 siblings. She worked in her father’s grocery store as a teenager. She was an administrative assistant for a fertilizer factory and Cafeteria lady for the elementary and middle school for 15 years. She loved to quilt, crochet, listen to music and dance with her husband. Her favorite thing and true passion was cooking and baking family dinners for all her children and grandchildren, with the occasional Lebanese feast to honor her heritage. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother (Sithy) and she shared her faith with everyone, but most especially her family, friends, and husband as a deacon’s wife for 25 years. Through the last years of her life, her sense of humor, sharp wit, and easy smile were undimmed and made her quite the beloved resident at the nursing home. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Gerald; son, John Melvin; daughter, Judith Merritt; son-in-law, Michael Wild and daughter-in-law, Debbie Melvin. She is survived by her children, Karen Wild of Charlotte, NC; David Melvin of Independence, VA; Joseph Melvin (Peggy) of Woodbridge, VA; and Gerald Melvin (Amy) of Charlotte, NC; as well as 9 grandchildren: Melissa Merritt, Jessica, Jacob, Nicholas, Alexander, Kristopher, Grace, Zachary and Lucas Melvin. The family wishes to thank Carrington Place in Matthews, NC for their wonderful care of Josephine for over 5 years. They appreciate the nurses and staff who made her stay feel like home, as well as all of the individuals with whom she came into contact . They would like to add special thanks to the 400 unit nurses especially Michelle, Adam and nurse Mattie and Chaplain Pat (Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region). They all went above and beyond with great care and affection. Thank you! Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 21st at 11am at St. Matthew Catholic Church. The family will begin with a eulogy at 10:45am. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
