Joyce Buhler Beacham

Joyce Buhler Beacham of Rock Hill, SC Mrs. Beacham, 95, passed away on April 19, 2022. Born on November 3, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY, Joyce was the third daughter of John and Dorothy (Petersen) Buhler. She grew up in Brooklyn, NY, and later went on to study at Columbia International University (formerly Columbia Bible College) in Columbia, SC where she met her husband, Gordon. They were married in 1949 and headed to West Africa as missionaries in 1951. They served with SIM in the country of Benin for 38 years, involved in linguistic work and translating the Bible, until their retirement in 1989. At that time, they moved to Pineville, NC to be near their four daughters. Joyce is survived by her children: Nancy Stilwell (Jon), Joy Beacham, Grace Thomas (Bob) and Linda Isch (Emmanuel); 6 grandchildren, Brandon and Nathan Thomas, Michael and Matthew Stilwell, Emilie and Alexandre Isch; and one great-grandson, Finn Thomas. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents John and Dorothy Buhler; her beloved husband, Gordon, and both of her sisters, Grace Sternitzke and Faith Dunlop. A gathering of family and friends to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 7th at Grace Life Church in Pineville. She and her husband will be laid to rest together on Monday, May 9th at 11:00 a.m. at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia SC.
