Marie Gougion Duvier

May 12, 1942 - May 5, 2022

We are heartbroken to announce the passing of Marie (RieRie) Gougion Duvier on May 5, 2022, at the age of 79. She was an angel on Earth who selflessly gave all of herself to God and her family. Marie was born in Englewood, NJ, to Arthur and Alice Gougion and had 4 wonderful sisters. She graduated from St. Cecilia High School and then Fairleigh Dickinson University. She married her best friend and the love of her life, Robert Duvier. They raised their family in Phillipsburg, NJ, and have been living in Charlotte, NC, for the past 17 years. She is survived by Robert Duvier, her loving husband of 58 years; her children David, Steven, Glenn, Nicole (Dan) Stephenson, and Michael Conlon (Godson); her two granddaughters, Kelly and Ashley Stephenson; and her twin sister, Madeleine Gavin. She was an avid reader, a devout Catholic and a doting and caring mother and grandmother who was always there. A devoted friend to all those she met, she was also a well-loved member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, where she volunteered in the library and on various church committees, and often read to the TK children of St. Matthew Catholic School. Marie also loved animals, especially horses and dogs, and avoided all things that involved technology, especially cell phones and email. A Catholic funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 2, at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Charlotte, NC, where she will then be laid to rest in the Columbarium. Church Address: 8015 Ballantyne Commons Pkwy, Charlotte, NC 28277 A short eulogy will be held 10 minutes before the funeral service begins. Arrangements for a gathering after the service will be communicated closer to the funeral date.
