    September 25, 1929 - February 9, 2022

Norma (Marie) Riggs Milligan went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 9, 2022. Marie was born on September 25 th , 1929, to Kathleen Mitchell Riggs and Omar Hickman Riggs. She was an only child and was her daddy’s girl. As a child she loved going to baseball games with her father and she loved to dance. She was an avid reader and loved having dogs in her life. After a 3-month courtship, she married the love of her life, Charley Joe (Chuck) Milligan and the love affair lasted 63 years until his death in 2013. Unable to have children of their own, Chuck and Marie adopted 2 sons in the early 1960’s and provided both with a very stable and loving family life. She was a longtime member of Grace Baptist Church in Durham, NC and after moving to Charlotte, she was a member of Carmel Baptist Church in Matthews, NC. In the last years after her husband passed, she lived with and was cared for by her son David, daughter in law Louvenda Milligan, her grandchildren and 2 loving caregivers, Sherry Thornburg and Merrenda Dean. Marie is proceeded in death by her beloved husband, Charley Joe (Chuck) Milligan, her father, Omar Hickman Riggs and her mother, Kathleen Mitchell Riggs. She is survived by her son, Mark Milligan of Hillsborough, NC, Mark’s daughter Devyn Milligan, her son David Milligan, (Louvenda Milligan) of Charlotte, Grandchildren Lindsay McCarley of Charlotte, (Shon McCarley), Michael Milligan & fiancée Hayley Beals of Nashville, TN, Laura Milligan of Charlotte, Great Grandchildren Ella McCarley and Colin McCarley. The family would like to thank Hospice and Palliative Care, Charlotte Region for their support in the last months and being a great resource for us as we went through this process. There will be a private, family only graveside service at the National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to: Hospice and Palliative Care of the Charlotte Region P.O. Box 470408 Charlotte, NC 28247
