    Sarah Bowen King

    August 3, 1928 - February 14, 2022

Sarah Bowen King, Holden Beach, NC Mrs. Sarah Bowen King died February 14, 2022, at the home of her daughter Linda Thornton. Born August 3rd, 1928, in Shelby, NC, she was the daughter of Joseph Claude Bowen and Mary Overstreet Bowen. In 1946, she married Vol Thomas "Tom" King to whom she remained happily married until his passing in 2000. She was a charter member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Charlotte and a beloved member of Circle 6. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. She will be remembered for her love, devotion, and fierce loyalty to her family. Nothing made Sarah happier than to spend time with them, especially sitting on the porch at her home at the beach, drinking coffee in the mornings. One of her greatest joys was cooking for her family, which also brought joy to them. Her selflessness and acts of love will be cherished and remembered until the end of time. She was loved by all that met her. In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her oldest daughter Wanda in 2016, her sons-in-law Bobby Poole (1986) Johnny Jordan (2017), siblings: Lucy, John Wray, Ginny, Ted and Tommy. She is survived by her children and their spouses: Susan Poole King, Linda Thornton and her husband Pat, and Scott King and his wife Julie. She is survived by 8 grandchildren: Benjamin Poole and wife Jennifer, Natalie Thornton Wilson, Mary Thornton Murray and husband Kevin, Zachary Thornton, Caroline Jordan Swatkowski and husband Mitchell, Sarah Thornton Kinlaw and husband Kyle, Kevin and David King. She is also survived by her 9 great grandchildren, Addysen and Maddox Wilson, Piper, John and Alison Murray, Harrison and Charlotte Poole, and Erin and Amora King. A visitation will be held at 12pm followed by a service at 1pm on Saturday, February 19 at Westminster Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 101 Colville Road, Charlotte, NC 28207, or Hospice Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 7845 Little Avenue Charlotte NC 28226, hpccr.org, are appreciated. The King family is in care of Heritage Funeral and Cremation Services.
