    Sarah Jane McNeal

    March 18, 1947 - April 17, 2022

Sarah Jane McNeal (Sal) March 18, 1947-April 17, 2022 died surrounded by friends and family in Hospice Care at Novant Medical Center. Sarah was a published author of romance and fantasy romantic fiction. You can find her books and short stories on Amazon.com. Writing was her passion and she blended this with her nursing career at Mercy Hospital. As a nurse, patient advocate and team supporter in coronary care and emergency department for 30 years she managed to survive and thrive in both careers. Spiritually she explored many paths and a refreshing take on all the paths she chose. Her lifelong friend, Kathy Groce introduced her Native People’s spirituality and Sal was deeply appreciative of this gift. She held strong and unrelenting beliefs about friendship, and being kind and compassionate towards others. Despite her introversion, she was an active member of animal rights groups and environmentalism. Sal wrote letters, signed petitions and voiced her concern for these challenges in our world. Sarah is survived by her sister, Mary Elizabeth McNeal; her nephew Matthew McNeal Beaty and his wife Tracey Beaty, and daughter Madeline Carmella Beaty; Niece Elizabeth Jane Burkart. Sarah’s dog Lily visited frequently while she was in the hospital. Sarah will be having a green funeral as was her wish to preserve the environment. Sarah’s family is deeply appreciative of the care she received in Hospice at Novant Hospital, Charlotte, NC. These wonderful caretakers made her last days as comfortable and loving as they possibly could. Special thanks to “J” whom she became close to over the month she lived there.
