    Thomas George Davenport Sr.

    August 11, 1927 - March 10, 2022

    Thomas George Davenport, Sr. (Tom) died March 10, 2022 at the age of 94 in Huntersville Hospital. Tom was born August 11, 1927 in Ooltewah, TN to TT Davenport, formally of Little Rock, AR and Winnie Flowe Davenport of Charlotte, NC. He was married to the love of his life, Martha G. (Skipper) Davenport, for 23 years. Tom graduated from Harding High School in Charlotte in 1945 and then from Kings College. After graduation from Kings Collage, Tom joined the US Armed Forces. He was a US Navy Veteran of WW II and the Korean War. Tom was the holder of U.D.C. Cross of Military Service. Tom retired as an Accountant. Tom was a member of Eastgate Mason Lodge #692 since 1959; Oasis Temple & Oasis Band since 1961; Mitzvah Chapter #36 Eastern Star – Past Patron 1970-71 and 1984-85; One of 5 founding members of the Mecklenburg Shine Club 1972 and the first secretary treasurer and 1977 President and Life Member. During his life Tom enjoyed Square Dancing & Music. He played various instruments, mostly the saxophone. Tom was also a member of various square dancing clubs in Charlotte NC. He is survived by his lovely wife, Martha G. (Skipper) Davenport. Son, Donald Davenport (Ronda); Daughter, Rebecca Davenport; Son, Ronald Davenport; Son, Thomas G. Davenport, Jr.; Stepsons, Chuck Skipper (Tommie Lu) and Jeff Skipper (Vicki); Grandchildren Sabrina Davenport, Jason Davenport, Cory Skipper (Renee), Jason Skipper (Holly), Jake Skipper (Elicia) and Luke Skipper. Sister, Dollie Davenport Bozard of Newberry, SC and Niece, Debbie Ashford of Stanley, NC. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, March 15th, 11:00 AM, at Forest Lawn East Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations go to Durham Memorial Baptist Church. https://www.durhamforchrist.org
