    Virginia Chadwick Weems

    November 26, 1921 - April 7, 2022

    Virginia C. Weems, 100, passed away peacefully at home April 7, 2022. She was born and raised in Lake County, Tennessee along with her 7 brothers and sisters. She was a star basketball player at Ridgely High School at a time when athletic opportunities and participation for women was rare. Virginia worked for the Tennessee Civil Engineers as a secretary for 15 years prior to getting married to Robert M. Weems. After getting married, she devoted herself to raising her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Virginia was predeceased by her husband of 52 years Robert and her 7 siblings. Mrs. Weems is survived by her children: Virginia Buff (Lonnie) of Greer, SC and Robert P. Weems (Lariza) of Fort Mill, SC; her grandchildren: Rachel Buff (Harrison) of Chicago, Nathan Weems (Alice) of Charlotte, NC, Andy Buff (Maria) of Danville, VA, Jessica Weems (Kyle) of Harrisburg, NC, Jeremy Buff of Greer, SC, Maria Castillo of Los Angeles, CA, Grace Weems of Fort Mill, SC; and great granddaughter Raelynn Grace of Harrisburg, NC. The family thanks Spartanburg Regional Hospice for their excellent care and support which allowed Mrs. Weems to remain at home with her family. Services will be held on Tuesday, April 12th, with visitation from 1:00 - 1:30 PM at Heritage Funeral Home - Weddington Chapel, followed by a graveside service at Forest Lawn East Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Spartanburg Regional Hospice or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
