July 25, 1944 - August 21, 2021
Mrs. Judith Ellen Gildea Csoka, 77, of Charlotte, passed away on August 21st, 2021 at Atrium Health Pineville. Though her passing was sudden and unexpected, she passed away peacefully in the presence of those who loved her. Judith was born on July 25, 1944 on Halsey Street in Brooklyn, New York to the late James and Nancy Lawlor Gildea. A second generation American raised in a Catholic family, Judith and her older brother Gene grew up surrounded by family and extended family in their small Irish neighborhood in Brooklyn. Her Irish heritage was very important to her and she proudly displayed her Irish spirit, especially around St. Patrick’s Day. Judith lived an extraordinary life. As a young woman she married Louis Csoka, an officer in the US Army, and bravely ventured away from the home she knew to a strange country clear across the world where she lived in Germany with her new husband. As a military spouse she moved around often but everywhere she traveled, she immediately became involved with volunteering in the community and providing support for other military spouses. Judith spent many years living at West Point where Louis served as academic staff and mentored many, many cadets over the years. Judith always welcomed all cadets with open arms, providing them with a place to relax and feel comfortable, keeping them well fed, and giving them a home away from home. Her impact on these young men and women can still be felt today. Judith opened her home and her heart to so many through the years; taking in those who had no place else to go for holiday gatherings, doing thoughtful things to celebrate special moments, and always being a gracious hostess. She volunteered her time for numerous causes but had a special place in her heart for the Assistance League of Charlotte whose works she believed in deeply. In keeping with her wild Irish heart, Judith celebrated life fervently and vibrantly. She created a beautiful environment where everyone was welcome. She embraced the pure joy of gathering friends together in merriment and camaraderie; laughing, singing, dancing, breaking bread, and toasting to health and good fortune. Always with a smile and a glint in her eye. Her memory will never be forgotten. Her light in this life will still shine bright and vibrant. And her spirit will champion an everlasting and fierce hope for the world for all the days to come. She was dearly loved and will be missed immeasurably. Judith is survived by her husband, Louis, her brother, Gene, and her four children; Tracy, Christa, Nancy, and Matthew; and three grandchildren; Connor, Dylan, and Kaitlyn. A Memorial Service for Judith will be held on September 24, 2021 at 2:00 pm at Heritage Funeral Home located at 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Matthews, NC 28104, followed by a Celebration Of Life at the residence.
