    Lydia Maurice West

    February 1, 1948 - February 12, 2022

Lydia West, born February 1, 1948, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2022, with her children by her side. Lydia was raised in Charlotte, North Carolina and was currently living in Matthews. Lydia dedicated her life to being a fantastic and wonderful mother and grandmother. Throughout her life she acted as the caregiver for her mother, father, son, husband, and other family members during times of need. She also worked in the daycare at Southview Baptist Church that many of her grandchildren attended. Family came first and was above all else to our beloved mother and grandmother, a value she instilled in all those around her. The hole left by her absence is impossible to fill. When Lydia wasn’t caring for her family and those she loved, her time was devoted to the many animals she rescued and gave a better life. Lydia was predeceased by her mother and father, William David Maurice and Evelyn Terrell Maurice; her husband, James West; and her eldest son, William “Chuck” Hanline. She is survived by her brother David Maurice, sisters Brenda Pell, Judy Puckett, Kay King, daughters Robin Franks, Kelly Choate, Dawn Bohn, sons Marshall Enwright, Tony West, Robbie West and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held in Lydia’s honor at Heritage Funeral Home, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Matthews, NC 28104 on Sunday, February 20, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. We request all of Lydia’s loved ones to join us in celebrating her beautiful life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Lydia’s name to the Humane Society of Union County online or via check mailed to 4015 Waxhaw Highway, Monroe, NC 28112, or the Carolina Hearts Aussie Rescue online or via check mailed to 8055 Hinshaw Shop Road, Liberty NC 27298.
