Marceil Harris Spraker Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Marceil Harris Spraker, 87, passed away on January 4, 2021 from Alzheimer’s disease. Born May 19, 1933, she was the only child of the late Harold W. & Martha Harris of Roanoke, VA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Charles Spraker. A gentle servant of God her entire life, she authored “I Know I Can Always Count on Jesus to Be With Me” for the Roanoke World-News, published August 21, 1952 at the age of 19. After graduating from Sullins College in Bristol, VA & Roanoke College, she studied at PSCE in Richmond, VA to become a Director of Christian Education in the Presbyterian Church. Her faith defined her life. Marceil married Charles Spraker, a Lutheran Pastor, on May 26, 1956 and dedicated her life to supporting his church and mental health ministries in TN and VA, while also being a homemaker, treasured mother, DCE and an employee of the American Cancer Society. A champion archer, her true loves included her family, horse training, gardening, the outdoors, swimming, ice skating, music, singing, dancing and being present as a witness for her Lord & Savior to anyone in need – friends or strangers. Marceil is survived by her only child, Cynthia Spraker Mills; son-in-law, John Mills, sister-in-law Betty Spraker, an extended family of nephews, nieces, cousins, step grandchildren, and two godchildren. Due to COVID risks, a private graveside service will be held at Evergreen Burial Park in Roanoke, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, the Ivey in Charlotte, NC (theivey.com); the American Cancer Society or the Valley Mission in Staunton, VA.
