March 22, 1935 - October 30, 2021
Robert Lewis Williams (Bob) was born in Lumberton N.C.to James Andrew Lewis Williams and Clara Smith on March 22, 1935. He spent his childhood in Marion Virginia and was the oldest of 5 siblings. He loved spending time in the woods and fields of Virginia, hunting and fishing. He met his wife Jane Walters while attending Lees McRae College in Banner Elk, North Carolina and they were married the summer of 1956. Bob served his Country as a Paratrooper in Germany and returned to Matthews, North Carolina, where he built his life. He and his father, James Lewis Williams, started Williams and Associates, Architects and Engineers in the early 1960’s and they were joined by his two younger brothers some years later. Bob handled business development and marketing and the business thrived. The family chose to open a development company, Three and One Properties, so Bob pursued and received his General Contractor’s license and began developing office warehouse and storage buildings in Matthews. Bob and his late wife built a vacation home in Topsail Island, North Carolina, where they spent many happy years on the coast. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and shared this passion with his family, including many of them in offshore fishing trips throughout the years. In his later years, Bob was a private man who built his strong Christian faith. One of his main goals in life was to leave a legacy to his two children, which he successfully did. He lost his beloved wife Jane in 2017 and is survived by his eldest daughter, Cynthia W Sauls, of Denver, Colorado; son in law, Anthony Sauls Jr., granddaughter Natalie Marie Sauls and her husband Rafal Plonski, grandson, Evan Anthony Sauls, and his youngest daughter Deborah W Olmstead, of Waxhaw, North Carolina son in law, Bruce W Olmstead, granddaughter Brittany Lynne Olmstead, grandson Cody Wayne Olmstead, and great grandson, Luke James Brunjes. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Heritage Funeral Home, Weddington Chapel, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Matthews, NC 28104. Interment will follow the service at Forest Lawn East Cemetery. The family will receive friends during a reception following the burial at the Williams Reception Hall at Forest Lawn East Cemetery.
