Matthews, North Carolina-Sara Morris Stewart, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away on April 18, 2021 at the age of 86. Sara graduated from Glenwood School in 1952. From there she received a BS in Home Economics in 1956 from Western Carolina University. Accomplishments included the Dean’s List, yearbook editor and voted most popular. She went on to become a Home Demonstration Agent for Cabarrus County, NC until she left her role in 1964 to become a Homemaker. Sara was a member of First Baptist Church of Matthews and a great servant to her church and community. She served as Sunday school teacher, choir & handbell member, wedding director, greeter, volunteer and treasurer of the HELP Center in Matthews and substitute school teacher. Sara was on countless committees, served as seamstress for many church and community events, and made the most beautiful flower arrangements for all occasions, most of which came from her garden. She was known as Miss Sara by so many who looked to her for guidance and advice. Best remembered as a kind, dear friend to those who knew her. She was born in October of 1934 in McDowell County to the late Fred and Fletcher Morris. She is predeceased by her brother Wayne Morris, of Marion, NC. Sara is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, Bennett J. Stewart. She is also survived by two daughters, Margaret Todd and husband David of Lewisville, NC, Mary Tucilla and husband Brian of Mineral Springs, NC. Granddaughters: Mary Margaret Waterer (Johnson) and Sarah Katherine Todd. Great Granddaughter: Evelyn Jane Waterer. A memorial service will be Friday, April 23, 2021 at First Baptist Church Matthews, 185 S Trade St, Matthews, NC 28105. Visitation 10am, Service 11am, followed by private family graveside service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church Matthews, 185 S Trade St, Matthews, NC 28105 or Matthews HELP Center 119 N Ames St, Matthews, NC 28105.
