Wanda Ackley Johnson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Wanda Ruth Ackley Johnson, 93, entered fully into the presence of the Lord on Tuesday, March 1, 2022. Though she will be missed, her family is thankful she is again in the arms of her beloved husband of 63 years, Thomas Edward Johnson, who went to be with the Lord in 2009. Born in 1928 to Willard and Katherine (Dunham) Ackley, she was preceded in death by her brothers Rexford and Norman, and her sister Barbara (Bole). Wanda loved her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, and loved to share her faith with others. She spent many hours reading her bible and Christian books, and served God as a “prayer warrior” for those she met who were in need. Originally from Pennsylvania, she lived most of her life as a homemaker in Wilton Manors, FL, until she suffered an injury in 2017 where she was in need of assisted care. She then relocated closer to her son and daughter who lived in North Carolina. She never forgot her travel to her new home where, accompanied by a family friend, she flew on an airplane for the first time ever in her life on her 89 th birthday, and was treated to a chorus of “Happy Birthday” by all the passengers. She spent her final years at Carrington Place in Matthews, NC, where she was much loved by her caregivers who were blessed by her kind and loving heart. Wanda leaves behind her son James (Dawn) Johnson and daughter Jean (Ian) Ellman-Brown; grandchildren Christina (Kelly) Wier, Laura (Joseph) Reagan, Jennifer (Chase) Philpotts, and Ashley Elllman-Brown; great-grandchildren Sarah (Randy) Kennedy, Jessica, Jason and Anna Kate Wier, Corey, Abigail, Eric and William Reagan, and Kiah Philpotts; and great-great- grandchildren Jackson Newton and Rylan Kennedy. Private services will be held by the family. Those who wish to honor her memory, may make a donation to Matthews Presbyterian Church for the benefit of the “Room in the Inn” funds, P.O.
